Technical information about this website’s accessibility

West Suffolk Council is committed to making its websites accessible, in accordance with the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018.

Compliance status

This website is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.2 AA standard, due to the non-compliances and the exemptions listed below.

Non-accessible content

The content listed below is non-accessible for the following reason(s):

Non-compliance with the accessibility regulations

  1. Interactive element does not meet enhanced size - some links do not have enough space around rtthem (this does not meet WCAG 2.2 AAA - Target size enhanced) Interactive elements, like buttons or links, should be at least 44 by 44 pixels, so they can easily be clicked or tapped by all users.
  2. Text not included in an ARIA landmark ( this does not meet WCAG 2.2 AAA - Technique ARIA11 and ARIA20) Landmark roles provide information about page structure, and can help assistive technology users with in-page navigation.
  3. Some links are not clearly identifiable (This does nto meet WCAG 2.2 A - 1.4.1: Use of Color) People who are colourblind may be unable to find a link if colour is its only distinguishing feature. Providing another visual cue -such as underlining or bolding the link text- will also make it easier for non-colourblind people (especially people with low vision) to scan the page.
  4. Line height is below minimum value for one line on the homepage (this does nto meet WCAG 2.2 AAA - 1.4.8 Visual Presentation) The line-height for paragraphs should be at least 1.5 times the font size.
  5. Colour contrast does not meet enhanced requirement on a button link on the Apprenticeships page (this does nto meet WCAG 2.2 AAA - 1.4.6 Contrast (Enhanced))

Content that's not within the scope of the accessibility regulations

PDFs and other documents

The accessibility regulations do not require us to fix PDFs or other documents published before 23 September 2018 if they’re not essential to providing our services. Any new PDF documents we publish will meet accessibility standards.

Logos and branding

Images of text are not accessible, but logos and branding are exempt from the accessibility requirements WCAG 1.4.5 Images of Text

What we’re doing to improve accessibility

We are continually working to improve accessibility. We regularly receive reports form Siteimprove, the automated system we use to check accessibility, quality assurance and search engine optimisation (SEO) and look to resolve issues on a weekly basis. We also respond to any issues identified by visitors to the websites and regularly review pages.

Where we find accessibility issues, we resolve them as soon as possible. We expect all the current issues to be resolved by June 2024.

We work with our third party suppliers (for example our recruitment system) to make sure their systems are as accessible as possible, and to resolve issues as quickly as possible.
