Cameron, Health and Safety Apprentice

What role are you currently in, and what apprenticeship are you studying?

Apprentice - Safety, Health and Environment Technician. I am studying a Level 3 Health and Safety qualification.

Why did you choose to do an apprenticeship?

I did not enjoy my first year of college and wanted to try and start more of a career for myself.

Do you have an idea of what you would like to do after your apprenticeship?

I would like to carry on working within Health and Safety and study for my IOSH (Institute of Safety and Health) certificate.

Did you know about the council before starting your apprenticeship, if so, what?

Yes, I did know about the council before I started working here. I knew about their involvements with waste management and car parks.

What advice would you give to future applicants?

Try to talk to people if you’re struggling with the work and talk to fellow apprentices who may be able to relate to you.

Name three things have you learnt whilst working at the council

  • The different buildings and sites they manage
  • Their involvement with housing
  • A lot of UK Workplace Regulations
