Eva, Learning and Development Apprentice

What role are you currently in, and what apprenticeship are you studying?

Apprentice - Learning and Development, studying Level 3 Business Admin.

Why did you choose to do an apprenticeship?

I chose to join the West Suffolk apprenticeship programme, because I wasn't keen on college and I knew the course I picked wasn't for me. Additionally, I knew that the on the job learning provided by the council, plus a Level 3 Qualification would benefit me a lot more then continuing on to university at the time.

Do you have an idea of what you would like to do after your apprenticeship?

I am still completely unsure of what I would like to do in the future.

Did you know about the council before starting your apprenticeship, if so, what?

Yes, I had heard about the council like many others and knew a few areas they covered, such as bins and Council Tax.

What advice would you give to future applicants?

Go for it and try it out, even if you are unsure, because it always works out in the end!

Name three things have you learnt whilst working at the council

  • West Suffolk Council does not deal with potholes or fixing the roads within West Suffolk, that is Suffolk County Council's responsibility.
  • I have had the opportunity to work within the Chief Executive's team and the Learning and Development team, which means I have been exposed to many different areas, and have met lots of different people.
  • Accountability and asking lots of questions is a must when starting any new role
