Keira, Finance
What is your role?
Finance Assistant Apprentice
When did you start here?
I started in 2022, it’s a two-year apprenticeship.
Why did you choose to do an apprenticeship?
You can get better experience by working and getting your qualifications at the same time.
Did you come with GCSEs or A Levels?
GCSE’s.
Did you have a clear idea of what you wanted to do?
I had no idea what I wanted to do whether that was A levels or college but now I am doing my apprenticeship I know this was the best option for me.
Why did you decide to work here?
I saw the job advert and was really interested.
What did you know about the council before you joined and what have you learnt about it so far?
I knew they were there to support the community so working here has been interesting, to find out what exactly goes on in the council. I have learnt about all the different service areas such as planning, families and communities, parks and gardens, fleet and so on.
What apprenticeship are you undertaking, and do you have future plans?
Assistant Accountant, level 3, part of the Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT). Plan to get as many qualifications as I can and hopefully qualify as an accountant.
What do you enjoy about working here?
The people that I work with, the amount of support I get and my overall job role.
Apart from your apprenticeship, have you had other opportunities to learn and develop, job-shadow or to be involved in different projects?
Yes I have done lots of training such as fraud awareness, anti-money laundering, modern slavery awareness and so on. I am also booked on for some courses such as resolving telephone conflict and customer service.
What advice would you give to future applicants?
Listen to any guidance and take lots of notes about your job role.
