Molly, Property apprentice

What role are you currently in, and what apprenticeship are you studying?

Apprentice - Property Administrative Support, studying Level 3 Business.

Why did you choose to do an apprenticeship?

To have the opportunity to learn on the job and gain experience in different areas.

Do you have an idea of what you would like to do after your apprenticeship?

I would ideally like to work in the Property Services team, which is the team I am currently working in as I have made great relationships within this department and I enjoy the work we do.

Did you know about the council before starting your apprenticeship, if so, what?

I didn’t know very much about West Suffolk Council, other than a few schemes I had seen on social media, as I am not originally from West Suffolk. However, working here has given me insight into all of the different services West Suffolk Council has to offer.

What advice would you give to future applicants?

I would recommend keeping on top of your learning journals/off the job hours by logging them at least once a week, but ideally taking a bit of time out after you have done anything that would be applicable to log it the same day to prevent you from forgetting about it. I would also recommend doing your assignments as soon as you can after you get them, I find this makes it a lot less stressful and keeps me very organised. I get all my assignments in on time or early and this makes it a lot less stressful to me. I would also recommend speaking to your tutor about any issues you are having, as they are extremely understanding and will do whatever they can to help you out.

Name three things have you learnt whilst working at the council

  • I have learnt about the inner workings of how the council operates.
  • I have learnt how to manage my time and better my organisation skills.
  • I have learnt about the maintenance of operational and non-operational buildings from both a facilities management perspective and a surveying perspective.
